Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic

Coronaviruses are a large family of virus and it's cause common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Rspiratory syndrome(SARS-CoV). But novel Coronavirus(nCoV) is a newly identified in humans.
WHO gives new name for novel Coronavirus disease known as COVID-19 and virus name is SARS-CoV-2.
It is a novel virus, very little is known about it. COVID-19 is a highly contagious disease.
WHO declared the 2019-20 Corona Virus Outbreak, a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January, 2020 and classified a Pandemic on 11 March, 2020.

According to Hong Kong university pathology professor John Nicholls  'In cold environment, there is longer COVID-19 virus survival than warm environments'.

Corona Viruses :

* All Coronaviruses are 120nm to 160nm (large) associated with single stranded RNA genome.
* Coronavirus is derived from Latin word corona means "crown" or "wreath".
* It is look like crown shaped.
* Genetic mutation rate is high
* Mostly infect animals and birds.
* Less number of coronavirus infect human. There are six coronavirus known for human infection.

COVID-19

This term being used as per WHO guidelines. COVID-19 stand as COrona VIrus Disease originated in 2019.
Earlier used names for COVID-19 are :
* SARS-CoV-2
* 2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease
* Novel coronavirus pneumonia
* Wuhan pneumonia.

Coronavirus are transmitted between animals and people. According to the detailed investigation SARS-CoV was transmitted from civet cat to human and MERS-CoV from dromedary camel to humans. Several known coronavirus circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans.

Transmission Source of COVID-19 ~

The exact source of COVID-19 virus is still unknown.

COVID-19 Symptoms ~

The symptoms may appear 2 - 14 days after exposure👉
*Fever
*Cough (mostly dry cough)
*Shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.
*Persistent pain or pressure in the chest.
*Bluish lips or face.
* Diarrhea
* Sore throat
* Loss of smell and abdominal pain.
Majority of cases result in mild symptoms (about 80%).
This list is not all inclusive please consult your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning.
Most people infected with COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate  respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.
In more lethal cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.
Some survivors show permanent lung damage.

Mode of transmission of the COVID-19 Virus~

According to WHO reports:Respiratory infection can be transmitted through droplet of different sizes:
1. When the droplet particles are >5-10 μm in diameter they are referred to as respiratory droplets.According to current evidence, covid-19 virus is primarily transmitted between people through respiratory droplets and contact routes. In an analysis of 75,465 covid-19 cases in China, airborne transmission was not reported this infection caused by the close contact (within one metre) with someone who has respiratory symptoms (e.g. coughing and sneezing).
2. When the droplet particles are <5 μm, they are referred to as droplet nuclei. It can remain in the air for a long period of time and be transmitted to others over distance greater than 1metre. It is an airborne transmission of Covid-19 virus.

Current Scenario of COVID-19 ~

WHO classifies COVID-19 as a Pandemic.
It was first reported in Wuhan, China, on 31 December 2019. Now, its spreading more than 190 country and territories around the world and one international conveyance. The mostly affected countries are China, Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Germany,France, USA, India, United Kingdom, Russia.
On 2 May 2020, Total Coronavirus cases are 6,388,234;
Death-377,881; Recovered-2,922,116 People.

Challenges due to COVID-19 :

* Currently no specific treatment of it.
* It is highly contagious disease.
* The transmission rate of SARS-CoV-2 is higher than SARS-CoV and could be genetic recombination.
* Higher chance of transmission by asymptomatic carrier.
* The progression of the disease is very unpredictable.
* In some parts of the world, mortality rate is high.

Treatment of COVID-19 ~

There is no specific medicine to prevent or treat  COVID-19. Several drugs such as chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, arbidol, remdesivir, and favipiravir are under trial used.
There is no vaccine for COVID-19.
People may need supportive care to help them breathe. Making medicine and vaccine to Fight against COVID-19 is under process.

Preventive Measures against COVID-19 :

* Staying Home
* Covering mouth and nose.
* Disposal of used tissue immediately.
* Keep about 6 feet distance in public places.
* Wear mask/cloth on face.
* Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
* There is no evidence about the survival of the COVID-19 virus in drinking water or sewage, so there is no need of special treatment of water.
* Regular hand wash with soap and water for at least 20 second or use sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
* Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.

INDIA

Government of India closely monitoring the situation of COVID-19 through Disaster Management Act 2005 to prepare and containment of the virus.
The coordination between Central and state government for strengthened and community surveillance,quarantine facilities,isolation wards, adequate PPEs, trained manpower, rapid response teams for management of COVID-19.

Government steps for Awareness ~

*Electronic and social media in local language,
*Local cable TV channel,
*Phone messages,
*Audio announcement an FM radio and helpline number for preventive measures.

Protection Measures~

*Throw tissue in close bin immediately after use.
*Greet people with a wave, a nod , a bow and avoid hand shake or physical contact.
*Regular washing your bare hands provide more protection against COVID -19.
*Avoid  close contact with people who are sick.

Currently, Pandemic of COVID-19 damage depending on our behaviour. If we will follow experts guideline like social distancing, cleanliness, wearing masks etc. then damage can be minimised. But if we ignore it, then it will be resulted as most catastrophic event in the history of the world. So let's save ourselves and our world.
