The extraordinary G20 Leaders' Summit  was held virtually via a video conference on 21-22 November, 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic. The participation of respective Heads of Government of 19 member countries, European Union, other invited countries and international organizations. This summit discuss challanges and obstacles posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Three Focus Points as per Theme of G20 Summit 2020 :  

"Realising Opportunities of 21st Century for All"

1. Empowering People :

• To create the conditions in which all people, particularly women and youth, can live, work and thrive.
• The G20 will focus on policies that promote the equality of opportunities especially for underserved groups.
• G20 members will discuss solutions in areas such as empowering women and youth, promoting education and human capital, encouraging quality jobs and social protection, and fostering progress on development.
• G20 Members will continue to promote gender equality - including supporting initiatives such as the 'Empowerment and Progression of Women's Economic Representation' (EMPOWER).

2. Safeguarding the Planet :

• The collective efforts and take concrete actions to safeguard our commons.
• Advance efforts for managing emissions in all sectors and nature based solutions such as reforestation and protecting and restoring marine resources.
• Approximately 12 million hectares of land are lost annually due to land degradation including deforestation. 
• To minimizing land degradation and deforestation to conserve biodiversity and meet climate goals.
• Preservation of ocean ecosystems.
• There will be global cooperation on water management and address policy, financing and innovation challenges to ensure water security for all.
• Promoting food security : "No Hunger by 2030".
• Access of cleaner and greener energy for a new era.

3. Shaping New Frontiers : 

• The G20 Members will act collectively to tackle the challenges emerging from the profound transformations and adopt long-term bold strategies to utilize and share the benefits of innovation.
• Promoting Space Cooperation : Space observation and sharing of information can contribute significantly to the protection of common global goods such as climate and the ocean.
• Advances in digital technology are transforming the global economy and considerably impacting people, markets, and governments.
• Development of infrastructure through the use of new and sustainable technology.e.g. Developing Smart Cities (Metro Rail, Car Pooling, digital land records etc.)
• Combating Corruption by promoting digital platforms, which can increase transparency and accountability of the government. It boost economic growth and build trust between government and citizens.

India's Stand at the Summit :

• G20 not limited to economic recovery, jobs and trade, but to focus on preserving Planet Earth nothing that all of us are trustees of humanity's future.
• There is need a new Global Index for the Post-Corona World that comprises Four elements -
+ Creation of a vast Talent Pool;
+ Ensuring that technology reaches all segments of the society;
+Transparency in systems of governance; and
+ Dealing with Mother Earth with a spirit of Trusteeship.
• Now, the time to focus on Multi-Skilling and Re-Skilling to create a vast Human Talent Pool. This would enhance dignity and make more resilient to face crises.
• The new technology should be based on its impact on Ease of Living and Quality of Life.
• To enhance people confidence in governance systems through greater transparency in governance.
• Human and Nature relationship will be positive for Healthy Life style.
• 'Work from Anywhere' is a new normal in the Post-COVID World.
• The G20 summit focus on building an inclusive, sustainable and resilient future and a side event on safeguarding the planet.
• The SDG Agenda 2030 - 'leaving no one behind', India following the same principle in the 'Reform-Perform-Transform' strategy to move forward and inclusive development efforts that are participative.
• India introduced 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' in G20 summit.
• Riyadh Declaration was issued for coordinated global action, solidarity, multilateral cooperation to overcome the current challanges and realize opportunities of the 21st century for all by empowering people, safeguarding the planet, and shaping new frontiers.
