SAKSHAM Awareness Campaign 2021

Context :

On 16th January, 2021, Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has launched a month long campaign to create awareness among the consumers of fossil fuels.

Aim of the SAKSHAM Campaign :
To convince consumers to switch to cleaner fuels and bring in behavioural change to use fossil fuel intelligently.

SAKSHAM stand for Sanrakshan Kshamata Mahotsav.




Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) :

• PCRA is a registered society set up under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.
• It is a National Government Agency engage in promoting energy conservation and adoption of green energy.
• It help government in making policies and strategies for reducing excessive dependency on petroleum oil requirements.
• It is a Non-profit Organisation (NGO).
• The head Office located in New Delhi.


About SAKSHAM Awareness Campaign :

• It is focuses on conserving fossil fuels and adoption of green energy.

• The awareness of using clean fuels among masses through several Pan-India activities such as
seminars,
cyclothon,  
farmers workshops, 
painting competition, 
CNG vehicle driving contest, etc.

• It will help in reducing fuel consumption and adoption of energy efficiency measures which lead to better lives of the people, healthy environment, sustainability and development of the country.

• All the energy companies are now part of the transition to fuels which are clean and leave very less carbon footprint.

• The campaign will also spread awareness about 7 key drivers that Prime Minister Modi mentioned :

1. Moving towards a gas-based economy,
2. Cleaner use of fossil fuels,
3. Greater reliance on domestic sources to drive bio-fuels,
4. Achieving renewable targets with the set deadlines,
5. Increased use of electric vehicles to decarbonized mobility,
6. Increased use of cleaner fuels like Hydrogen, and 
7. Digital innovation across all energy systems.


Facts about last year's edition of SAKSHAM - 2020 :


• More than 1.4 crore school children participation in PCRA's flagship National Competition for conservation of energy and environment protection among youngsters.

• The winner get Japan Study tour, Laptop, Tablet and Cash prize.

• Spreading awareness for fuel conservation through interactive audio, video creatives and print display

• Almost 9 crore people were directly reached through about forty-seven thousand programmes across the country.
