Recently, Various Farmer groups protesting against new Farms Act, 2020 in Burari Ground, New Delhi. Protest specially by Punjab and Haryana farmers.
On 27th September, 2020 the President of India gave his assent to the three Agriculture Bills, those were proposed and passed by both the houses of Parliament. The three new Agriculture Act are
1. The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020;
2. The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Service Act, 2020 and
3. The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020.
Reasons for Farmer Fear :
• The Acts is anti-farmer without any protection to them.
• Procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP) will stop.
• Now the Mandis (APMC) will end.
• Big Companies will exploit farmers in the name of contract.
• Advantage to big corporate, loss to farmers.
• Farmers lands will be in the hands of capitalists.
• State governments fear losing out on taxes that are charged at Mandis, or wholesale market.
Government Stands :
• Farm Act is not going to affect MSP at all. The MSP system will continue.
• Market system will continue as before.
• The Act is give more options to farmers.
• Farmers can now sell their crops to anyone, anywhere and can earn more profits by joining with big companies.
• The e-NAM trading system is also continue in Mandis.
• The contract agreement with guaranteed the farmers to get the fixed price. Farmers can withdraw from the contract at any point without any penalty.
• The Act clearly prohibits sale, lease or mortgage of farmers' land. Agreement will be for crops and not for land.
Farmers DEMAND :
• Farmers Protection law.
• MSP in written law
• Mandi Protection
• Protection from Big Companies
• To annulment of new three Farms Act
There is need better conversation & cooperation between famers and Government for the Path of Golden Mean(sustainable solutions).
