QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021 : 12 Indian Institutions Secure

Context :

According to latest edition (11th) of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021 ➡️ 12 Indian universities and Higher Education Institutions have achieved position in top 100 in the world in their subject categories.

Union Education Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' addressed at the unveiling of QS University Rankings by Subject 2021. He congratulated 12 Indian Institutes on securing position in top 100 in the QS Subject Rankings for the year 2021.


He said that reform in Indian education system by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will play a vital role in transforming Indian Higher Education into a knowledge superpower in the 21st century.

• This year's QS World University Rankings reveals top 1,000 universities from around the world.


• Top Performers Institutions :

1st Rank - Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT-USA),

2nd Rank - Harvard University (USA)


• This year's 26 Institutions from the Asian Universities in the global top 100, it is more than ever before.


12 Indian Institutes secured position in top 100 of the World - IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, IISC Bangalore, IIT Guwahati, IIT IIM Bangalore, IIM Ahmedabad, JNU, Anna University, University of Delhi, and O P Jindal University.


• 3 Indian Institutes in the top global 50 :

IIT Madras (30th)

IIT Bombay (41st)

IIT Kharagpur (44th)


IIT-Madras has been ranked 30th rank for petroleum engineering, and is the highest rank achieved by the government-run Institutions of Eminence (IoE) across this year subject rankings.


• One Indian Private University ranked under the top 100 Global Institutes - OP Jindal Global University (76th).


• The Government-run (IoE) University/Institutions perform better than the private one.


• All the 25 Indian programs achieved top 100 positions, which was 26 in the last year.


• According to authentic data, India ranks 5th in terms of its research footprint in global environmental science. India behind only Germany, China, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
