1. Human Development Index (HDI) 2021/22:

  • Published by: United Nation Development Programme (UNDP).
  • Three basic elements of Human Development to measure HDI:

I. Life Expectancy

II. Education &

III. Per Capita Income

  • India ranks 132nd out of 191 countries in 2021/22 report. Value: 0.633
  • India ranks 131st out of 191 countries in 2020 report.
  • Top 3 ranks: Switzerland, Norway and Iceland respectively.
  • Best performer of among India's neighbours 2021/22: Sri Lanka (73) and China (79).

 

2. World Happiness Report 2023:

  • Released by:  United Nation Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN-SDN)
  • It Use six different variables: GDP Per Capita, Social Support, Healthy Life Expectancy, Freedom, Generosity and Corruption.
  • Top Ranks: Finland, Denmark and Iceland respectively.
  • India’s Rank: 126th out of the 137 Countries.
  • Bottom Nation: Afghanistan.

 

3. Global Peace Index 2022:

  • Published by: Institute for Economic and Peace (IEP).
  • World’s Least Peaceful Region: Middle East and North Africa.
  • Most Peaceful Region: Europe.
  • Top Ranks: Iceland, New Zealand, Ireland respectively.
  • India’s Rank: 135th out of 146 Countries. (Worst among Neighbouring Countries except Pakistan).
  • Bottom Nation: Afghanistan

 

4. Global Gender Gap Index (GGGI) 2022:

• Published by: World Economic Forum (WEF)

• It is based on

I. Economy

II. Education

III. Health

IV. Political Empowerment

• Top 3 Nations: Iceland, Norway, and Finland respectively.

• India has ranked 135th among 146 countries.

• Last Place - Afghanistan (146th).

• India's neighbours - Bangladesh 71, Nepal 96, Sri Lanka 110, Pakistan 145th ranked.

• It is measures progress towards parity between men and women.

 

5. Human Capital Index (HCI) 2023:

• Released by: the World Bank as a part of the World Development Report 2020.

• India is ranked at 116th out of 157 countries.

• Three basic dimensions of HCI are:

I. Survival - measured by under-5 mortality rates

II. Expected years of Quality-Adjusted School: measured by quantity and quality of education.

III. Health Environment - measured by adult survival rate of stunting for children under 5.

• Top nations mostly from North America and Europe for HCI.

 

6. Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), 2022:

  • Released by: Transparency International (TI)
  • Top Performers: Denmark, Finland and New Zealand respectively.
  • India is ranked at 85th Position.
  • Bottom Performers: Somalia, South Sudan, and Syria.

 

7. SIPRI (Stockholm International Peace Research Institute)

  • Trends in International Arms Transfers 2022, Report.
  • Largest Arms Importer: India (11% in 2018-2022)
  • 5 Largest Arms Exporter: USA, Russia, France, China and Germany (76% arms exporter).
  • Russia was largest supplier of arms to India in 2013 to 2017 and 2018-2022.
  • Top 5 Arms Importer: India, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Australia and China (36%).

 

8. Henley Passport Index, 2022:

  • Published by: Henley & Partners
  • Objective: The Strength of Diplomatic Relations of Anyone Country With Others.
  • Top Ranks: Japan, Singapore & South Korea, and Germany respectively.
  •  India is ranked at 87th out of 193 countries.

 

9. Democracy Report, 2023:

  • Published by: V-Dem Institute (at Sweden’s University)
  • India is ranked at 108th Position.
  • Top Rank: Denmark.

 

10. Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2022:

• Published by: Welthungerhilfe and Concern Worldwide

• India ranks 107th among the 121 countries.

Top Performers: Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovinda, Chile China and Croatia.

• Four Indicators of GHI:

I. Undernourishment (which shows inadequate food availability)

II. Child Wasting (i.e., low weight for their height, reflecting acute undernutrition)

III. Child Stunting (i.e., low height with respect to age, reflecting chronic undernutrition)

IV. Child Mortality (The mortality rate of children under the age of 5).

• The world goal to achieve "Zero Hunger by 2030". It is one of the Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations.
