Pey Jal Sarvekshan Urban 2021


Context :

On 16 FEB 2021, A Pilot Pey Jal Sarvekshan under Jal Jeevan Mission - Urban has been launched in 10 Cities by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA)

Mission :

To ascertain equitable distribution of water, reuse of wastewater and mapping of water bodies with respect to quantity and quality of water through a challenge process.

Key Points :

• Collection of data on drinking water, waste water management, non-revenue water.
• The data collection through face-to-face interviews with citizens and municipal officials, on-call interviews, water sample collection and laboratory testing, and field survey for non-revenue water.
• This mission will be monitored by a technology based platform on which beneficiary response will be monitored along with progress and output-outcome.
• Funding from Government for projects will be in three instalment (20:40:40).
• Third installment will be released based on functional outcomes achieved and credible exclusion will be exercised while funding.
• Pey Jal Sarvekshan launched under Jal Jeevan Mission - Urban.
• Ministry has decided to launch a pilot on Pey Jal Sarvekshan in 10 Cities namely -
1. Agra, Uttar Pradesh
2. Badlapur, Maharashtra
3. Bhubaneswar, Odisha
4. Churu, Rajasthan
5. Kochi, Kerala
6. Madurai, Tamil Nadu
7. Patiala, Punjab
8. Rohtak, Haryana
9. Surat, Gujarat
10. Tumkur, Karnataka

• Pey Jal Sarvekshan to be extended to all the AMRUT cities based on learning of the pilot project.




Basic Facts About Jal Jeevan Mission- Urban (JJM-U) :

• JJM looks to create a Jan andolan for water, thereby making it everyone's priority.
• To provide Universal Coverage of Water Supply to all Households through functional taps in all 4,378 statutory towns in accordance with SDG Goal- 6.
• Estimated gap in sewer connections/septage in 500 AMRUT cities proposed to be covered in JJM(U) is 2.64 crore.
Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) project worth minimum of 10% of their total project fund allocation.
Funding : 
For Union Territories (UTs) : 100% Central Funding, 
For North Eastern and Hill States : 90% Central Funding,
Central Funding : 50% for cities with less than 1 lakh population, One-third for cities with 1 lakh to 10 lakh population and 25% for cities with million plus population.
• It improves 'ease of living' and ensures better 'quality of life'.
• This is working closely with the States to accomplish the task i.e. 'Har Ghar Jal' in mission mode and time-bound manner.
